Background & Problem Statement
Kenya faces a rising burden of chronic and terminal illnesses, yet community-level palliative care remains limited and fragmented. After hospital discharge, many patients experience:
- Loss of continuity of care
- Inadequate pain and symptom management at home
- Limited psychosocial support
- Caregiver burnout
Primary caregivers often balance work, family, and care responsibilities, leaving patients vulnerable to preventable crises that result in unnecessary hospital readmissions.
Tumaini is being established to respond to this gap by developing a structured, community-based, tech-enabled palliative care model.
Vision
To enable dignity, comfort, and holistic support for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
Mission
To develop and deliver integrated palliative care services through:
- Clinical care
- Psychosocial support
- Pediatric continuity
- Community outreach
Tumaini Palliative Care & Hospice is an upcoming initiative currently in its foundational and partnership-building phase. The organization is not yet operational. All clinical, training, and digital health programs described on this website represent planned activities to be implemented in phases following legal registration, infrastructure setup, staffing, and regulatory approvals.
